Would you like a copy of your Bonny Oaks Record
or your Legal Record?
To
Obtain Your "Bonny Oaks" Record
The website has received
a list of names that indicate there are records on file for that person stored in Ken Clay's office at Family & Children's Services,
Chattanooga, TN.
These records are not the "legal" records regarding your placement at
Bonny Oaks.
If you want a copy of what's in your Bonny Oaks file, there is a "Records Release Form"
that must be signed and forwarded to the Chattanooga office to obtain the copies. These files are strictly confidential and are only available to their
owner.
I do not have a copy of the files, only the list of names.
If
you want to see if you're on the list, please send me an email at
texasbonny@yahoo.com
Please see important email from Ken Clay
below regarding the Bonny Oaks records.
To Obtain
Your "Legal" Record
Your legal records can be obtained from
the:
Hamilton County
Juvenile Court - Clerk's Office
Attention: Records Department.
1600 East 3rd
Chattanooga, Tennessee 37404
Telephone Number: 423-209-5100
Note: Ronald Swafford is the Clerk of Court for Juvenile. Mr.
Swafford would like the following information to be included on our website to
help alleviate unnecessary confusion:
(1) When a child turns
18 years of age, their juvenile record is closed and sent to storage. To
view your file(s), contact the Court's Records Department by telephone (or in
person) and ask them to check for your name on their Index of stored files in
the warehouse. If your name is on their list, they will put in a request
to have the records pulled from storage and brought to the Court. You will
be given a date your records can be expected to arrive and can be viewed.
(2) The Juvenile Court requires you to come to the Court in person and present a
picture ID before they will let you look at the files. There is a private
room in their office that you may take your file to read through it. You
may request a copy to take with you. The Court will not send out copies in
the mail nor will they answer questions pertaining to the contents of the file
over the telephone.
(3) Mr. Swafford suggests the following if you do not live in the Chattanooga
area: "The Court can accept a Court Order from a court in your county
OR a certified letter from a court, signed by a Judge, requesting your records
be mailed to you". Be sure to contact the Records Department in
Chattanooga first to see if they have your file in storage.
(4) Mr.
Swafford's office suggests that all inquiries contain your telephone number so
they can call you if they need to ask additional questions.
(5) Adoptions: "If you were adopted, the Juvenile Court in
Chattanooga, Tennessee would not have your adoption records. You will need
to direct your inquiries to the Department of Human Services in Nashville,
Tennessee. Their telephone number is 423-634-6200.

Email from Ken Clay, Director of Partnership for
Families in Chattanooga and the last Superintendent of Bonny Oaks. A great
friend to all the Bonny Oaks children! Ken's office has the records of
Bonny Oaks students and has been providing copies of them to individual's
requesting them. He writes to let us know of changes that affect the way we will
obtain our Bonny Oaks records:
"Dear Christine, We have changed our name to
the " Partnership for Families, Children and Adults " My assistant
will mail you a new form so you can make the change. In
the past I just charged what ever the cost was for this to the old programs that
came over to our agency from Bonny Oaks. I am sorry but we are now going
to have to charge what ever they cost plus mailing. My staff and I will
continue to provide our labor to continue to handle the old files. Please
inform those requesting files that we have no way of knowing how many pages or
if there isn't any information until we send them out to a company to print them
off the old microfilm. Also , our
budgets have been cut and we are struggling to keep things going. We had 6
group homes and lost one last year and it looks like we will lose another one at
the end of June.
We are facing another problem or two.
1. We only have a microfilm reader and it is on it's last leg and the
microfilm is getting old.
2. We need to get all the old film on cd's but don't have any funds available to do so.
I will be trying to find a way to solve our problems but keep us in your
thoughts till we do
Your friend ,
Ken
