Greetings All! Just know that I remembered you
with a grateful heart as I responded to Charles Calloway earlier this
morning, Blessings, Charles (Camp):
"Good morning, Charles,
In addition to food, shelter, clothing, education, and medical/dental
care, the great advantage for all Bonny Oaks Alumni is that we
learned early-on to work and take care of ourselves. Thanks for
taking time to visit Mother yesterday! Via telephone, Mary Ann
told my wife, Marie, that necessary arrangements had been made and that
a "reunion" was scheduled. Others from Bonny Oaks who
want to see Mother again are encouraged to act promptly. Come
May 1, Mother celebrates birthday number 96! I will be in
Chattanooga then to acknowledge that very special day. I
know Mother was thrilled to see you again after so many years.
Though she doesn't talk much anymore about different ones of the
children, she still mentions you in casual conversation from time to
time. I want you to take that as a compliment, OK? The years
you assisted Mother in the Storeroom (weekly ordering, receiving,
storage, and grocery distribution/delivery) apparently made a
difference in your life. Mother's mental capacity has remained
sound these many years since retiring from Bonny Oaks, so it's no
surprise she asked you about others with "a Bonny Oaks
history". And isn't it terrific that we can re-visit and
remember while viewing the splendid BOS website now?! Charles,
take care to help others as you enjoy good health and pleasant memories.
One's life experience is meaningful and never-ending only when
"others less fortunate" have been served unselfishly,
accepted as an equal, respected as God's own creation, and loved as
a brother, as family.
Best regards,
Charles" |

Hello to Everybody!
Visit to Mrs. Kelly Camp
I wanted to give everyone an update on
Mrs. Kelly Camp, Charley and Mary Ann's mother. I went by to spend
some time with her and Mary Ann today. I tell you, I haven't seen
Mrs. Camp in over 35 years. I worked for her while I was there in
the School. She is 95 years old and still looks good. After
35 years she still knew who I was. I tell you, I didn't want to
leave her but I told her I would stay in touch with her from now
on. She can't hear as well as she would want to, she still has
that beautiful smile. I told her I miss seeing her and I hate that
it took me 35 years to see her. I love that lady so much. I
always ask Charley about her and he would tell me she is doing
okay. I saw it for myself and she is doing great for a 95 year old
lady. She asked me how was Mrs. Adamson doing and I told her I got
an email from her on Tuesday and she was doing pretty good. She
was sorry about Mr. Adamson passing. Then she asked about Mrs.
Radford. I told her that Mrs. Radford was doing great, she is
eating, walking, talking, getting around, Mrs. Camp just smiled.
That made me feel real good to see that she still can remember
people. I was glad she knew who I was. I told Mrs. Camp she
will always be special to me in my heart. She was the one who
showed me how to work. And I tell you, if you were at Bonny Oaks
School and you had to do something for Mrs. Camp and you didn't know
how, she told you how to do it and before you left that job, you would
know how to do it. She would keep you until you learned how to do
what she wanted you to do and I thank her and Bonny Oaks for everything
they have done for the kids at Bonny Oaks School. I worked for her
about 10 years. I told her I would come back to see her again, she
is so beautiful. She is still going to church and Bible study on
Wednesday nights with Mary Ann. I told her before I left that I
love her and she hugged me and gave me a kiss on my jaw!
Charles L. Calloway, Sr.

Dear
Bonny Oaks Alumni,
As you know, the Bonny Oaks Kids sent a spray of flowers for Mr.
Adamson's funeral. Would you like to help defray the cost?
It was $100.00 and $20.00 has already been taken care of. If you
would like to contribute, please send a check of any amount made out to:
"Harry R. Jackson for Mr. Adamson's Flowers", to me and it
will be taken care of. I will make sure it gets into the
BonnyOaksdotCom funds, from which the bill will be paid. Don't
feel guilty if you can't send anything, I just thought I would give you
an opportunity to be involved. Thank you!
Sincerely,

Mr. Malcolm M. Adamson
passed away at 5:25 PM today, 4/8/08, in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Arrangements are Pending.
 |
| 4/5/2008 |
Mrs. Adamson contacted the website
this afternoon to let everyone know that Mr. Adamson was transferred to
Memorial Hospice in Chattanooga TN today. He was admitted to the
hospital last Thursday 4/3/08 because of fluid building in his
lungs. When the fluid continued to build despite usual efforts,
the doctors determined it was not feasible to go into his
chest and put in a "spicket" to drain them saying "the
procedure would
make him too miserable". Mr. Adamson has a Living Will and
did not want the procedure.
The hospital transferred him to their Memorial Hospice where they are
doing everything they can to make him comfortable. Mrs. Adamson
says the staff is wonderful to them. When Mrs. Adamson was asked if visitors are allowed, her response was
"Oh Yes! He would love to have visitors and see
EVERYONE! He is very rational but just gets a little confused
sometimes."
If at
all possible, please try to go see Mr. & Mrs. Adamson as they would love it
and your companionship would be a source of great comfort to Mrs. Adamson who
has endured much herself and continues to love us
all.
Please include Mr. and Mrs. Adamson in your thoughts and prayers.
GOD BLESS!

I know life is busy
and we all have our families and can't keep the website up on new email
addresses all the time but these are the situations that bring home how
important communications can be. So if you are in contact with
other Bonny Oaks kids and your siblings, please take the time to call
them and let them know Mr. Adamson's hospice news (maybe drop a line to
update the website on your new address, we want to keep in touch).

"A Need for Prayer"
Well, I have been through a rough weekend....Last Friday evening my
ex-wife and my two grandchildren had a bad wreck! My grandson 25
mos. and granddaughter 9 mos. were air lifted to T.C. Thompson
Children's Hospital. My two daughters, their mothers, had to come
with their husbands from Knoxville. The baby girl, her name is
Adisyn, may get to come home tomorrow! But my Little Buddy, his
name is Ethan, is having it rough. The doctors say there is some
spinal cord damage but we know The Great Physician! and He can do what
doctors can't! Please keep them and their grandmother in your
prayers...Thanks and God Bless...

"Death
of a Brother" Hello, This is Katie, former Katie Rogers.
I am writing to let you know of Kenny's death that occurred 4 years ago.
He died in his sleep very peacefully they say. I found him and he was
smiling. Kenny had a lot of friends there and he would want them
to know , I suppose? He passed away on Feb. 15, 2004. I
have recently stumbled upon this wonderful website and feel compelled to
write to you. All of my mother's children were at Bonny
Oaks. I have a sister named Mary Elizabeth Mills who graduated
from there I am told, she is sibling #1. I have never met her and
am told that she graduated a nurse. Can you shed some light on
this. My sister Norma Games was there with brothers Bobby &
Billy Games. Twins like Kenny & I. A middle sister
Johnny Carolyn who died when she was 9. The albums have given me
such JOY. Patsy, Johnny and Susie were there before Kenny & I,
I think. Johnny was killed in Vietnam while I was in Nashville at
TPS. Thank God for the Good Judge (Judge A. Britt) who saw fit to
see that I got a good education and graduated in 1970. I have been
married to Rick Woolfolk for 30 some odd years. We have two
children. A boy named Eason and a girl named Kathleen. They
are always asking about our childhood and now I can show them some of
mine. I have 5 beautiful granddaughters , who happen to think I
hung the moon. Go figure. Who
would have thought that my life would be so blessed . God
gives us children to Love and Grandchildren to love us back. Times
in the beginning were rather fearful for All of us and I give
Thanks EVERYDAY for all the blessing God has given my
wonderful family. Good roots. From small acorns
grow mighty oaks. I will always remember that.
Take care and God Bless You.

Funeral Arrangements
The doctors took Tommy off the respirator on Saturday
after his son and daughter got here. The intensive care doctors let
his son stay with him all that day. He is in a suite now with his
family all being there for him. We have been friends with Tommy for
many years, Jesse considers him as a best friend. As I am writing
this to you, Jesse called and said Tommy died this morning at 12:07.
Jeanie, his wife, is making the arrangements now. I will let you
know more later today.
We just heard from Jeanie and the arrangements are that he is going to be
at the Chattanooga Funeral Home on South Seminole in East Ridge, TN
tomorrow, March 18, 2008, visitation from 4:00pm to 8:00pm. The
burial service will be on Wednesday, March 19, 2008, in Tracy City.
We will not be able to attend the burial because Jesse has his retirement
dinner on that Wednesday. We'll keep in touch with you.

I was viewing the wonderful BOS website tonight and it
always brings back pleasant memories of days gone by. Thank you
for maintaining the site for all to enjoy, your talents are greatly
appreciated! Over the years I have tried many times to contact Bob
Bramlett through the E-mail address listed on the website but have never
had success. Do you have any idea how to contact him? Does
the website have a "lost and found" section? I
have lost Bob and would love to find him. My son David Jr and his
wife Rhonda just presented us with our first grandson, his name is
Mahlon Edward Yell. Both names were given to honor both of their
grandfather's. We were beginning to wonder if we would have a
grandson to carry the Yell name into the future. Dave and Rhonda had
three daughters before Mahlon came along. I am hoping to visit Tennessee
very soon, this Michigan winter gets old real fast. Take care and
once again, thanks for all you do for us BOS kids. David Yell

Many of you may remember when Mr. Adamson would have one
of the big boys lead some of our chapel services. Harry Jackson
was one of those boys and just had a wonderful find today, here's his
email (and yes, I was there, I was 11 years old then). Hope you
enjoy reading this too:
"Christine, Attached is a 'speech' that I gave during the Bonny
Oaks Chapel Service on March 23, 1962. I was 17 1/2 years old at
the time. Perhaps you were there. Someone found my original
notes in some files at Bonny Oaks. :) Harry"
Here are links to the three pages of Harry Jackson's
original hand-written copy of his sermon notes - Way back in 1962, Harry
wrote out the phrase for his sermon "What Would Jesus Do"
(sound familiar, way to go Harry!).

What a great find when I googled Bonny Oaks and found
your website. My great great grandparents, John Coleman Kalleen and his
wife, Louisa Mae Laing were first superintendent and she Matron at Bonny
Oaks. My great grandmother, Victoria Kalleen was a teacher there as was
her sister, Ina Kalleen that married Rev. Claude Sprague. They married
in the front parlor (Ina and Claude). The Kalleen's kept their residence
at Eveningside in Ferber Place, in Chattanooga.
John had it built early 1900's. He was called to a Boy's Home in Washington,
D.C. so they packed up and moved but never gave up the house. In
1904 he again was asked to take Superintendent job in Jamesburg,
NJ and again they accepted. They were there until 1915 when they
retired (supposedly) and returned to Chattanooga.
Seems they took about a year off when they were asked to return to Washington,
D.C., which they accepted again according to newspapers,
returned to the Capitol 1 Dec 1916. Grandpa Kalleen passed away 23 Dec
1928 in Chattanooga
at the home of Ina and Claude on Oak St. Grandma passed away two months
later, 26 Feb 1929 at Grandma Vic's home in Birmingham,
AL. I visited their burial place in Forest Hills Cemetery in Chattanooga.
I also visited Bonny Oaks along with Ina's daughter, Mary Sprague Moore
who is now 95 years young, but has much knowledge about her Mom's days
at Bonny Oaks. Strange that I tried to contact NJ
for records but they could not provide me with anything except newspaper
articles, yet your website shows only good things and nice that wards
can get together, have reunions and happy memories. Good job! Mary
Gordon Smith |
| 1/27/2008 |
Thank you so much for the photograph! This is the first
photograph that we have ever seen of Mr. Kalleen and his wife! The
wife's name I believe is Louisa M. Laing. And a picture of his daughter,
Mrs. Claude Sprague, too! Her maiden name was Ina Kalleen. I have a lot
more information on them, but maybe it is easier to visit one of my
fellow family researcher's website: http://ebcal.com/family/genealogy/bg-ped/2381.htm
. Mrs. Mary
Gordon Smith created the website and is also the source of my
information on the newspaper articles. I believe she has copies of the
originals, but I have not seen them yet. Transcribed copies of the
articles are also available on her website. Again, thank you so very
much for the photographs. Let me know if you would like any further
information from our end. Sincerely, Erin Hess-Kalleen |
| 1/27/2008 |
My name is Erin Hess-Kalleen and I am helping my husband
research his family genealogy. We believe that my husband's Great Great
Grandfather, Mr. John Coleman Kalleen, is the same J. C. Kalleen
mentioned as the first Superintendent of the Bonny Oaks School on the
Bonny Oaks School sign that I found on your website. In Mr. Kalleen's
1928 obituary it is mentioned that he was Superintendent of a Bonny
Oaks, and in a 1915 newspaper article, Mr. Kalleen is mentioned as
having acted as Superintendent of a new school in Tennessee.
This supports our belief that these Kalleens are, in fact, the same
person. Please let me know if you know where I might find more
information about Mr. Kalleen's time at the Bonny Oaks School.
Thank you very much for any information you can give me.
Sincerely, Erin Hess-Kalleen

Hello, What memories I have of my time at Tennessee
Temple back in 1967 when I used to come out there with some other girls
for a Bible Club on Saturdays. I went back and found the diary I
kept as far as what I did and I see where I started going on Nov. 1966
and went until Oct. 1967. I have on May 27th where we took the
kids to Cloudland Canyon for the day. This was when my husband now
but boyfriend at the time, helped drive the kids that day. I have
the only 2 pictures I could find of our time there and wondered if you
know these people. I think one name was Darlene Dotson. The
one picture has a girl from Temple on the left and a girl from Bonny
Oaks that I want to think her name was Betty. Maybe not. Let
me know if you know these people. Thanks, Jackie Edwards, email is

Christine,
Jesse wanted me to put this on the website about Tommy Page. Tommy was
at Bonny Oaks from 1953-57. Tommy was diagnosed with
Lou Gehrig's disease about a year ago. He is fighting it every day but
he needs everyone's prayers. He recently had a trach put in.
He just retired and is living with his wife, Jeanie, and they live in
East Ridge, TN. His mailing address is 4118 Stump St., Chattanooga
TN 37412. If anyone knows anything about the disease knows there
is no cure at this time. He needs everyone's prayers. He
doesn't have a computer but we will keep you updated on his
condition. Pauline & Jesse Presley |

Christine, you can put Jesse's health problem on the website. We
went to the doctor yesterday to get the stitches out and thought that
was the last time we would be seeing that doctor but we were shocked to
hear he didn't get all of the cancer. The doctor told us he would
have a pathologist in the room with him and that would save another
operation. The big pathology report came back and said it wasn't
all out. We have another appointment with him in February and will
decide on what is the next step. Jesse is planning on retiring the
last day of February. He continues to ride his bike and walk every
day. Got to go and check on the boys, they are too
quiet...... Pauline |
|
1/11/2008
Jesse went today to have his stitches removed from his eye and the
doctor informed us that he didn't get out all of the cancer from Jesse's
eye. He goes back in a month to see the doctor and learn what he
has decided about having more surgery to remove the remainder of the
cancer. He is needing everyone's prayers also..... Pauline |
|
Little
Greg Presley is a Grandfather! Hey, that makes Jesse & Pauline
Presley great-grandparents!!! Greg and Dana Presley's oldest
daughter had a baby girl on 12/18/2007. Congratulations! |

Hope you are having a good new year. I have heard whatever you do
on the first day of the year is what you will be doing all year
long. Things haven't changed for me, cooking all day, watching
grandkids and football games..........
Jesse is going tomorrow for surgery on his eye, he has cancer of the
eyelid. He has basil cell which is suppose to not spread but it is
sitting on his tear duct. We don't know how extensive it is going
to be until the doctor gets in there to see, he doesn't want this to go
on the website until it is over. Pray for us tonight that things
will go right for us....Pauline Presley |

A New Years
Goal from
Robert "Pete" Hale
to YOU!
As the year ends….I received good news after my
9/27/07
prostate surgery. My blood test (PSA)
results indicate no trace of Cancer…Of course I have been through a
rough
3 or 4
months. Physicals,
blood tests, and a biopsy led to a decision to treat my prostate cancer
with surgery. I join Rudy
Guiliani, Fred Thompson, John Kerry and lots of others who have had to
deal with prostate cancer.
So
please all you men over 50….
Make sure you get PSA testing …

New Years Eve |
Greetings to all our friends.
This is the last day of this year and a good time to think
about and count your blessings of the year 2007.
Connie and I have had a good year. We have enjoyed the
company of our friends and loved ones. We made it through the year
without a cold or a major illness.
January 21st, 2007, was 83 years since my mother said "Isn't he a
cute little bugger?".
February 9th, we drove to Tyler Texas and brought Juanita home for a
week.
March 8th, Hannah (No. 2 granddaughter) came for 10 days. No. 1
granddaughter Haley and No. 1 great-grandson Caleb came on the 16th,
Rudy came on the 18th.
March 26th we celebrated 63 years of being husband and wife, mom and
dad, and Memmie and Poppie.
April and May was mostly doctors for about everything that can wear out
in these old bodies.
May 30th we started our trip driving to Corning, New York for No. 3
granddaughter's birthday and high school graduation. Had a good
trip and drove back home on June 15th.
June 21st we drove to Sand Mountain in northeast Alabama for a school
reunion. Met with L.B. and Odean Robison, my foster brother and
his wife.
July 27th we drove to Houston Texas to visit Marshall, Lee and
Debra. Had a good visit and lunch with Christine Haven a special
friend and sister from Bonny Oaks School.
August 1st we drove over to Shreveport Louisiana from Tyler Texas.
Had a good visit with some good friends Raymond "Gabby"
Johnson, went by the I.B.E.W. Lo. Union Hall and found out when their
retirees club meeting was held and then came home.
September 24th we drove to Shreveport to attend retirees meeting and
lunch. This just about made my summer. How good it was to
see old work buddies and renew a special friendship with Glenn Pickett
and his wife. I plan on going back next Spring.
October 7th Connie like to have caught up with me, we celebrated her
81st birthday at Murry's Dinner Theatre.
November 22nd Connie and I spent Thanksgiving Day at home.
November 23rd Haley and Caleb came and spent the day with us.
December 18th we flew to New York for Christmas with Ron, Mary and the
girls and two Rhodesian Ridgeback dogs 100+ lbs.
December 28th we came home.
So much for our travels!
In-between all of this I go to rehab at the hospital three days a week
and do as much fishing as I can, which is not a lot.
We wish each of you a
Healthy, Happy and Prosperous
New Year!

| MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!
1 CORINTHIANS 13 (CHRISTMAS VERSION)
If
I decorate my house perfectly with plaid bows, strands of twinkling
lights and shiny balls, but do not show love to my family, neighbors and
friends, I’m just another decorator.
If
I slave away in the kitchen, baking dozens of Christmas cookies,
preparing gourmet meals and arranging a beautifully adorned table at
mealtime, but do not show love to my family, neighbors and friends,
I’m just another cook.
If
I work at the soup kitchen, carol in the nursing home, and give all that
I have to charity, but do not show love to my family, neighbors and
friends, it profits me nothing.
If
I trim the spruce with shimmering angels and crocheted snowflakes,
attend a myriad of holiday parties and sing in the choir’s cantata,
but do not focus on CHRIST, I have missed the point.
Love
stops the cooking to hug the child.
Love
sets aside decorating to kiss the spouse.
Love
is kind, though harried and tired.
Love
doesn’t envy another’s home that has coordinated Christmas china and
table linens.
Love
doesn’t yell at the kids to get out of the way, but is thankful they
are there to be in the way.
Love
doesn’t give only to those who are able to give in return, but
rejoices in giving to those who can’t.
Love
bears all things, believes in all things, hopes all things, and endures
all things.
Love
never fails.
Video games will break, pearl necklaces will be lost, golf clubs will
rust.
But giving the gift of love will endure.
May the Lord continue to bless us one and all!
Merry Christmas and a great New Year!

"And a great big HELLO to you. You have afforded
us great excitement. It really is making his Birthday wonderful. We have
started printing the comments but are unable to print Pete's. I think it
is because of the e-mail. If we are unable to get it would you make a
copy and send to him? We have paid a visit to the Dr.'s office today but
only had a medicine change. This hasn't been one of his best days but
has had some good ones recently. Mike and Marion and families spent the
weekend here celebrating his Birthday. Thanks again and we will keep
checking! Much love, Mrs. A." |

HAPPY RETIREMENT,
MR. CLAY
from Charles Calloway
I am so sorry that I didn't get to make it to Mr. Clay's retirement
party. I will make it up to him. Mr. Clay is a great
guy. I thank God for him and his family. I got to spend some
time with Mr. Clay a few weeks ago. I went down to his office and
sat down with him. We talked about the good ole days at Bonny
Oaks. Mr. Clay has a way of making a person feel real good about
himself. I remember a time at Bonny Oaks that I wanted to play
football and I was scared to play for the school. I had an older
brother who played football for Tyner High School. Mr. Clay told
me, "Just look at your brother, look at the job he did for his
school. If he can do it, you can too!". You know, he
didn't have to take the time out and talk with me but he did. Mr.
Clay is a God sent man to help those who cannot do for themselves.
I love him and his wife with all my heart. They are special people
and God sent them both to Bonny Oaks for a reason. When I see Mr.
Clay, I don't see color, I see a man who loves all races. I cannot
say that about everybody but I can say it from my heart. Mr. Clay
is a man of Love, Friendship, Happiness! That is what I see in him
and his wife, Mrs. Amber, and their kids. I can go and talk with
Mr. Clay about anything. He always has time for the Bonny Oaks
kids, I don't care how old he gets. He and I both love Alabama
Roll Tides. One thing I can say about Mr. Clay, he will always
give you a story about that old cow, Buddy - Number 15. By the
way, he still has Buddy's tag in his office.
Mr. Ken Clay, I want to wish you the best in life and remember what
God has for you, it is for you, nobody or no one can take the gift you
have. You are special and I love you so much. I will stay in
touch with you because you don't have anything but time on your hand now
:-)
HAPPY RETIREMENT TO YOU, MR. KEN CLAY!

KEN CLAY IS RETIRING
YOU'RE ALL INVITED TO HIS
RETIREMENT PARTY
Hello, my
name is Dana Chumbler and I have been Ken Clay’s assistant here
at the Partnership for Families, Children and Adults (formerly known as
Family and Children’s Services of Chattanooga,
Inc.) for almost 15 years! Along with so many others, I am sad,
but happy for Ken as he will be retired as of September 14, 2007.
We are having a Retirement Party for him on Tuesday, September 11 from
4:00-6:00 p.m. at 1800 McCallie Avenue in the Caldwell Gathering Room.
We will be celebrating his 23 years of dedicated service to us.
Yet another marvelous aspect of his life, he and his wife, Amber, gave
11 valuable years to the Bonny Oaks School from 1973-1984 as house
parents. During that time, in 1981, Ken became the Director of the
Bonny Oaks School as I’m sure you know! In particular, these are
forever precious memories to Ken. Would you
be so kind as to post this on the Bulletin Board of the Bonny Oaks
website for us? Anyone and everyone who reads this is invited to
attend. The above mentioned address was the old Chattanooga
Funeral Home and it is located next to Strickland Funeral Home. A
good landmark to mention would be that it’s about 3 blocks up from
Wally’s Restaurant (heading away from downtown) and on the same side
of the street as Wally’s. It’s a two-story brick building with
ample parking and there’s a sign out front – Partnership
Family Services Center. I appreciate your help with this and hope
to meet you at Ken’s retirement party!

Greetings from the Great State of Tennessee!
Hope you are doing okay. I just
wanted to let you know that I will be receiving my degree on Friday,
July 27th. I told you some time ago that I didn't want you
to put it on the website until I received it. Here's what I
will be receiving: DMin. -- which is a Doctorate
in Ministry and mine is specifically in Christian Counseling. I
never dreamed that I would receive my doctorate and surely not having
the title of Dr. Harry R. Jackson.

Email from Susie McDonald, "Friends: Hey, what
has happened to Pat Cole and Ann Smith. I remember Pat from Vine
St and Bonny Oaks. When the state took us from my mom and they put us at
vine street, I had no shoes at all. I remember this one girl had her bed
full of dolls and a lot of shoes under her bed, me being just six years
old wondered how in the world did she sleep in that bed full of dolls
until I saw her having to take every one of them off her bed and that is
how she went to bed with those dolls. She had so many shoes and I did
not have any, but here came Mrs. Jessie to the rescue and she had a talk
with Pat who had too many shoes, would you believe Pat came over and had
me try on a little pair of white sandals. It was as if those were
meant for me, they fit perfectly. I was really proud of those shoes and
I really want to thank her for them shoes. I remember Ann at Bonny
Oaks. Well better get off of here talk later, Susie" |

Email from Susie (McDonald) Buckner:
"Hi, how is it going. I was going through the obit list and came
across Joyce Marshall. I don't know to much about her except she really
like to joke around alot. I do remember coming down the stairs and she
was going down but I passed by her and she said that she was going to
tell Mrs Turner about something that I had done, but what. I asked her
what did I do. So I told her to go tell because it seemed like I was in
dutch for something or another all the time. After I said that she told
me that she was just joking around but she sure sounded really serious.
I do remember something about Mrs Turner. She had her own way to
discipline naughty girls and I am talking about myself and maybe a few
others if they can remember. This happened on a Sunday night, me and a
few others sneaked out the far end room windows because the roof garden
doors were locked. We sneaked out to meet a few of the boys that had
sneaked out of their building. Needless to say the girls that went to
church that night ratted us out and I got a smack on the back side and
grounded for thirty days. I was all the time getting grounded for
something but can not remember them all. One thing that I remember about
Christmas time was the socks that I got on the foot of my bed and the
Christmas party at the phone company which I got a little red riding
hood doll. Susie" |

I am the daughter of one of your Alumni and I have tried
to register my mother, Shirley Josephine Smith, as part of your alumni and have
yet to see her info on the "What's New" or
"Bulletin" page. She was a child at Bonny Oaks School
from about 1955-57 and left in 1957 to be fostered by the Evans
family. Currently she is living in Covington Kentucky. Since
leaving Bonny Oaks, she's graduated high school; married my father in
January 1962; had 3 sons and myself; and lost my father in July 1970 to
juvenile diabetes, TB and stomach cancer. We lived in Palmer, TN
before my father passed and once he passed, mom picked up and decided to
move up north to Cleveland, OH, where my father's sister lived.
Mom soon met her 2nd husband and remarried in November, 1972; had a son
& daughter by this man; divorced in 1975. Since then mom has
pretty much raised 6 children alone working 2 jobs to provide for all of
us. She was an only child but she has produced 7 children (6
living and 1 stillborn); has 14 grandchildren; and 2 and three-quarters
great-grandchildren (3rd due any day now). She has made up for
having no siblings, hasn't she? Ever since I was a little girl,
mom always talked about Bonny Oaks and when I found your website, I
called her right away and we have had fun going thru old pictures on the
site. I have found a lot of her for someone that was supposed to
be so shy. If anyone remembers her and would like to contact her,
please feel free to email me for her information. I can only
remember one name of someone that went to Bonny Oaks that mom has
mentioned and it was Jesse Presley.
Browsing through your website,
we see that he seems to be doing well and we are very happy for
him. So, in ending this looonnnggg email, I would like someone to
either email me and let me know how to go about getting her registered
again on your website.

This Is To My Father, Rev. John Lewis
Radford:
Dad, I would like to say Happy Father's Day to you. Thank you for
being a good father and a great grandfather to us. We know you are
not here with us in body but you are here in our hearts. We know
the Lord called you home on May 24, 2007 but He let us keep you here in
our minds and hearts. I wanted you to know we miss you so
much. Mother is doing the best she can. Faith and John is
keeping all of us together. Faith is a wonderful sister, mother,
wife and grandmother. When I look at this picture, you are the
reason for all of this. Father's Day is a special day set aside
just for you, Dad. We want to let you know you are still here with
us and we all wanted to tell you Happy Father's Day! We are so
glad you are not in any pain anymore. You don't have to worry
about anything or anybody. You can just do whatever you feel like
doing now. I can still talk to you whenever I want to. I can
still see your smile. I can still hear you talking to God.
All of these things mean a lot to me. When I talk to Henry, I feel
I am talking to you. Dad, you were my Friend, my Father, my
Leader, my Hero. You did a good job teaching me how to take care
of my family, how to be a man, how to put God first in everything that
we do. I remember when I was 9 years old at Bonny Oaks School and
you sat down and told some of us that one day we were going to grow up
and become young men and that we may not understand things right now but
we will in the by-and-by and we have to learn to put our trust in God
and not in Man. This world is only going to get harder. We
have to learn to lean on God. I would always hear you talk about
God but didn't understand at that time but when I got older I did
understand what you were trying to tell us. Those are some of the
good old days I had with you, Dad. Like I said before, you are
very special to me and you will always be with me in my heart. So
I want to say to my father who's in Heaven now, Happy Father's Day to
you Daddy! I love you very much. From your son, Charles L.
Calloway, Jr. |
